2020 Virtual FAFSA Night for SJHS, Sponsored by Southwestern Michigan College

  Zoom Meeting Link:

Having trouble with your FAFSA?

  • Get the assistance you need by engaging directly with financial aid experts and counselors from Southwestern Michigan College. SMC will have representatives from the Financial Aid and Admissions departments handy on Tuesday, November 17, from 6 - 8 PM, for a virtual FAFSA workshop via Zoom.

  • Feel free to stop in and get any questions you may have answered!

No in-person attendance is required – get the help you need from home!

What to expect:

We’ll start with a 20-to-30-minute, basic financial aid overview before transitioning directly into FAFSA completion.

Students and parents can have the opportunity to virtually meet 1-on-1 with a representative from SMC.

Completing the FAFSA typically takes 45 minutes. To ensure that we can optimize our time together, and that we have a successful Zoom session, we ask that you have the following information available:

  • Student and parent/guardian should have an FSA ID created – you can create an FSA ID any time.

    • Note: both student and parent will need a separate FSA ID to complete FAFSA. Only one parent/guardian needs an ID.

    • Tip: WRITE DOWN YOUR ID AND PASSWORD for future reference.

  • A copy of the student and/or the parent’s 2019 Tax Returns, if filed*.

  • A copy of the student and/or the parent’s 2019 W2s, 1099s and/or Schedule Cs, if student worked and,

  • All 2019 untaxed income information. Untaxed information includes but is not limited to child support, housing, food, and other living allowances, veterans non-educational benefits, etc.

*Some students and parents are able to use the IRS Data Retrieval tool. If you are eligible, you do not need a copy of your 2019 tax returns.

Please note, this workshop is not just for those planning to attend Southwestern Michigan College. It is for all students preparing for any college during the 2021-2022 academic year. We thank you in advance for your participation and look forward to assisting you and your family!
