Thank you for taking the time to visit my space. I have been teaching elementary special education in St. Joseph Public Schools since graduating from Central Michigan University in 2000. In 2004, I received my Masters in the Art of Teaching from Marygrove College. My husband, Brad, and I have three children- Bradley, Gracelyn, and Elliott. I love spending time with my family, traveling, and working on projects in our house.
My decision to teach special education was inspired by the challenges my younger brother experienced as a student with multiple special needs- at a time when special education was not generally accepted. He struggled with Dyslexia, Dysgraphia, Attention Deficit Disorder, and Emotional/Behavior Disorder. School, oftentimes, was a horrendous place for him. However, it was his special education teacher and a wonderful general education teacher who teamed together and began to turn his struggles into successes. They, more than anything, saw past his deficits and believed in his abilities. He graduated high school on the honor roll, graduated from Southwestern Michigan College and, later, Ferris State University. Currently, he works as a graphic designer in Grand Rapids and is a devoted husband and father. He is proof that anyone can succeed regardless of what difficulties they may have before them.
Our classroom is more like a family than anything, and you are a very large part of this. We support each other and believe in one another. I am always amazed at the unique ways my students learn and the talents that they possess. Email is the very best way to reach me, especially during the day. Teaching children is an adventure, and I am thrilled to invite you to come along!
