Welcome to the page of Natalie Rank and Jo Ann Tipton! We teach in one of the most exciting classrooms at Brown Elementary. Our class is called ECDD which stands for Early Childhood Developmental Delay. The children in our class are between the ages of 3 and 6 and are some of the most fun children in the school. I am Natalie, the one on the left. Beside me is the best partner anyone could ask for, Jo Ann.
I have been teaching since 1997. I spent my first year in Colorado and my next 5 years in Grand Rapids teaching 2nd grade. My husband and I are both graduates of Dowagiac High School so we were very excited to take the opportunity to move back to the area. St. Joseph has proven to be a wonderful school district to work in. I am also pleased that both of my children will have the opportunity to grow up in such a cutting edge and innovative school district.
I have been teaching in the ECDD classroom since 2003 and it has been both fun and challenging. Jo Ann has been with the program since the year 2000. We make a terrific team! We truly enjoy working together and working with the diverse group of children in our class. Our bar is set very high for the students in our classroom.
We spend time each day working on a wide variety of skills. We use the zoo-phonics program to teach letter recognition and sounds, which the children love. We also use the Houghton Mifflin Literacy program for Pre-K and portions of the "Handwriting Without Tears" handwriting curriculum. This year, we will incorporate Everyday Mathematics for Pre-K into our program. We also are excited with our new technology opportunities! We will be using an interactive Promethean board daily as part of large group activities. We will also have access to iPads which I am sure the children will love! We spend time each day working on social skills, fine motor and gross motor skills, literacy skills, math skills, daily living skills and so much more!
We hope you can come in sometime to see what a wonderful family we have here at Brown.
