Hello and welcome to SJHS!
Fresh out of Western Michigan University with an English major, I began my teaching career at St. Joseph Public Schools in 1995. By 2000, I also earned a Master's Degree in English Education with an Emphasis in English. At St. Joseph, I have taught English 8, English 9, English 10 (American Literature), English 11 (British Literature), College Writing, yearbook (Mazenblue), Journalism I, and newspaper (Wind-Up).
Our English curriculum consists of integrated language arts, so I believe in using writing to understand literature and vice versa. In 1998, I had the wonderful opportunity to participate in Western Michigan University's Third Coast Writing Project. This was an exciting adventure, as I examined my philosophies of the teaching of writing.
In addition, I am constantly trying to enhance my instruction with the use of technology in my classroom. Since 1997, I have been one of our building's T3s (Teachers Teaching Teachers). We conduct professional development opportunities for teachers to integrate technology into their curriculum. One of my goals is to have your student exposed to a responsible use of technology in our classroom and beyond.
In my spare time, I enjoy reading and spending time outdoors with my husband, Marc (also a teacher) and our teenage children, Max and Maya.
Class schedule and course information is available in itsLearning.
