In December 1978, I graduated from Central Michigan University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Education with a double major in English and teaching the mentally impaired. I graduated in 1984, from Western Michigan University, with a Masters of Arts degree in special education of the learning impaired. I am a member of the Learning Disabilities Association.
My career started in January 1979 teaching learning impaired elementary students in Muskegon. Since this was a part-time position, I moved on to teaching middle school and high school special education students in New Buffalo. In l987, I began teaching at Upton Middle School and taught 6-8th grade for 27 years. As of 2014, I have been teaching 9th and 10th grade Resource English. I enjoy teaching students in the resource room as well as team teaching in the general education classroom.
I am married and have twin sons. Walking, skiing, and reading are activities I enjoy. My family and I have spent many summer vacations camping and hiking at national parks. We also enjoy our yearly trip to Lost Lake Woods Club.
My passion is reading and helping reluctant readers to find that joy. My goal is to help students to reach their potential and find the resources to become productive individuals.
I can be reached by e-mail or by phone. The best time to reach me is during my conference time, which is from 11:32-12:42. Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns.
