In addition to teaching here at St. Joseph High School, I am a co-director of the Third Coast Writing Project at Western Michigan University. Third Coast is a site of the National Writing Project, a network of educators dedicated to increasing “student achievement by improving the teaching of writing and improving learning in the nation’s schools” (NWP web site).
I am a writer myself and have published poetry, professional articles, essays and other work in The Quarterly, Language Arts Journal of Michigan, Grassroots Review, Breakthroughs, and other publications and co-edited the book Home and Other Places. I also write an Opinion Maker column periodically for the Herald-Palladium.
